Join the art of jícara with Lilia Silva

Experience the beauty of nature transformed into art, one jícara at a time.

Let me present myself

Hello! I’m Lilia Silva, an artist who has dedicated her life to exploring and developing new forms of artistic expression. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a variety of techniques such as oil and acrylic painting, but my true passion lies in the creation of a unique style that I call jícara mosaic.

My creative process is deeply influenced by the nature and culture of Costa Rica, my home. I use the jícara, a hard shell found in nature, to create mosaics on wooden surfaces. This is a meticulous process, but each piece I cut and apply allows me to bring my ideas and experiences to life, transforming what many see as waste into something meaningful and beautiful.

I’ve had the opportunity to exhibit my work not only in Costa Rica but also in places as far as Russia, China, and Singapore. One of my most notable pieces is a mosaic of the old 5 colones bill from Costa Rica, a project where I dedicated countless hours to capturing the essence of our history and heritage.

While I also enjoy working with other techniques, oil painting allows me to explore the vitality and depth of colors the most. My works, whether mosaics or paintings, are a reflection of my love for natural elements and my desire to tell stories through art.

On this page, I invite you to explore my works, learn more about the art of jícara mosaic, and join me on this creative journey where each piece tells a story. Thank you for being part of this artistic adventure!
