The Jaguar Project: A Unique Mosaic in the World

The art of jícara mosaic is an innovative and pioneering technique that I have developed with great passion, and this Jaguar piece is the first in the world made with this material. Through this project, I set out to explore the possibilities of jícara as an artistic medium, while simultaneously testing its durability and expressive potential.
Creation Process

The process began with collecting old jícaras, which I then cleaned and prepared. A crucial part of the process was applying acrylic paint to some of the jícaras, bringing to life the vibrant colors visible in the mosaic. The base I used was a wooden plank, providing a solid surface to support the jícara fragments.

Once the jícaras were prepared, I carefully broke them into small fragments. Then, with great patience, I started assembling the mosaic piece by piece, paying close attention to every detail to capture the majesty of the jaguar and its surroundings. For the background, I decided to use unpainted jícaras, adding a natural texture and subtle contrast with the jaguar's vivid colors.

A Meticulous Task

This process was extremely detailed and demanding, taking around two months to complete. Each jícara fragment was placed by hand, requiring not only skill but also a great deal of patience. The dedication and effort poured into this piece reflect my passion for exploring new forms of art and finding beauty in unexpected materials.

Final Protection
Once the mosaic was fully assembled, I applied a layer of epoxy resin, ensuring its protection and longevity. This protective layer not only enhances the colors but also guarantees that the artwork can be admired for years without damage.

Through this project, I have demonstrated that jícara, a material often discarded, can be transformed into a meaningful and beautiful expression of art. This jaguar mosaic is not only a work of art but also a tribute to nature and the materials it offers us.
